BEAR

Age: 1 year old
Adoption Fees: $500
Adoption Status:

April 25, 2017 – Bear is having a fantastic week.  Twice in the last 2 days he has gone to the door to tell us he needs to go out and then has a pee and poo when we go out. So proud of him. There have been no more accidents in the home since the trainer came. We are still wearing the pee pad but he is definitely getting the hang of this. Outside, Bear poops & pees on every single walk and enjoys lots of praise when he does so. 4 times this past week, we have met dogs and he has learned to greet properly and stay calm. Still an issue if he sees a big dog. And he can spot one nearly 2 blocks away but we just walk from the situation as directed by the trainer and he calms down. Bear is improving on the leash and had our “door routine nearly down pat.” It definitely doesn’t take him as long to get him to a calm state before we leave the home. He still requires a fair amount of leash corrections but has started looking to the human for direction more. He’s very overwhelmed on walks still and therefore needs shorter walks that are varied. As far as meal times go, Bear waits for the resident pug to finish eating her bowl before he receives his. He actually instinctually “sits pretty” the whole time waiting. Then he scarfs it in pretty fast.

Bear is crate trained and sleeps all curled up in his bed. He does love to snuggle with the resident pug and people. He comes up on the big bed each night for a snuggle before it’s sleep time. We have also let him snuggle with us on a nap or two and he especially loves that. Just like a pug he loves to be next to his humans at all times. Now that Bear has more boundaries into the house, he is often found chewing hard bones in his own, especially if he can find a sunny spot on the carpet to curl into. He lives to get the zoomies with the resident and they will chase each other around the tables. He loves a good game of indoor fetch and would probably love a fenced yard to do the same outside. Bear has very strong teeth and absolutely loves a good game of tug of war. He will bring you toys to get the game going. He also loves a good stuffed animal that he can shake and “kill” and throw in the air. Bear play fight/mouth fight and interact a lot with the resident pug and she loves playing with him so we know she’s not upset. Bear is not a fearful dog. He wasn’t a huge fan of the vacuum but doesn’t seem to bark at it anymore just runs back and forth at it sometimes.
He’s also not a big fan of bigger dogs still. But a lot of that comes from his insecurity on walks. We will keep working on this.  Bear loves to be talked to when he snuggles and will bring his paws up and rub them over his face when he’s sacking up to you. We call it his ” Bashful Bear” pose. It’s very sweet.
He is very attached to his resident humans. He loves to stand up on his hind legs when we sit on the floor.  Bear loves to bring toys to us when one of us comes home. He will prance out to the door with a bone like a gift when you come home. We are very pleased with his improvements in a quick time.  He is learning the rules don’t change and consistency is key.   Bear will need to go to a home where people will agree to continue with his training, he’s a smart boy and thrive with rules and boundaries.
April 22, 2017 – Bear is such a sweet by, he loves to cuddle and play and wrestle with the resident pug.  Bear is looking for a forever home with NO cats and NO big dogs.  Bear would be your ideal jogging/hiking companion.  If you are interested in adopting Bear and you are not gone all day and have no cats or big dogs, please submit your Adoption Application.
April 16, 2017 – Bear is adjusting to the hierarchy in our home. He for the first time this morning didn’t try to go for Lucy’s bowl at breakfast. He just sat patiently waiting for his bowl when she is finished.
He is learning he needs permission for everything and often decides a nice quiet spot in the sun with a good bone is a much better way to spend his time.
We have been crating him during the day if not home. And he has actually seemed to prefer this. As does Lucy I think. He continues to sleep in the crate at night. So we make sure he gets lots of play time in between that.  Bear remains a huge snuggle bug and is especially in love with men.

March 29, 2017 – Bear is doing fantastic!  He is fully house trained. He loves his routine and is very smart.  He is learning to heel on the leash and is far more calm now. He is a very happy dog now. We have noticed such an incredible change with him. He is so trusting and playful. He and the resident pug Lucy snuggle together and play for long stretches of time with all the toys. He is good with small dogs, but barks at large dogs. He is good with kids and loves attention. He loves being told he is a good boy and responds very well to positive reinforcement.  He would make a great addition to any home that is willing to keep him in regular routine and give him lots of play time and attention.

March 27, 2017 – Bear continues to make progress in the housetraining dept.  He’s a very sweet boy who just wants to be loved.  We are pretty sure that Bear has some Jack Russell Terrier in him…..he loves to jumps and jumps in the air and on the kitchen table if he has the chance.  Bear will be at the upcoming April 2 Spring Paw Thaw at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre.  Come and meet this sweet boy.

March 14, 2017 – Bear is a sweet little boy.  He is coming to all our Adoption Awareness Event and is quite popular but still looking for his forever home.  If you are active and would like a sweet little cuddler too, Bear is for you.  Bear is not 100% housetrained but we are working on this and he’s making progress every day.

March 4, 2017 – Bear was at our Adoption Awareness Day yesterday and he did very well.  He gets along very well with other dogs and is an active little boy.  Bear is now ready to be adopted.  He is doing very well in the housetraining dept  but will need someone who will continue to work with him to make him totally housetrained.

February 28, 2017 – Bear loves to snuggle and will jump up on your lap in a flash.  He is getting along well with his foster brothers. He loves to play with stuffed & squeaky toys, growls at them and shakes them. He engages with his younger foster brother and last night they where even doing zoomies in the living room!  He gobbled up his kibble last night in true pug form.  After dinner he settled into his crate for the evening. I leave the door open during the day and he will often go in there to have a nap. He slept in there no problem last night.  He needs some work walking on a leash and with his house training but he will slowly get better and better every day.

February 25, 2017 – Bear is a sweet Chug (Chihuahua/pug).  He’s 1 year old and was surrender by his owner who didn’t have time to train him.  Bear is not neutered and not up to date in his vaccination.  He is going to the vet this week to get neutered and get up to date in his vaccination and microchipped.
